Community and public participation is an essential part of the efforts to conserve the Sumatran tiger. Therefore, WWF-Indonesia launched a program named "SAHABAT harimau" in response to the challenge of improving public awareness about the importance of the continuing the survival of Sumatran tigers in the future.
Specially designed video cameras installed by WWF-Indonesia’s tiger researchers in the Sumatran jungle, between two protected areas– Rimbang Baling Wildlife Reserve in Riau and Bukit Tigapuluh National Park in both Riau and Jambi provinces, captured a male tiger sniffing the camera trap. This Year of the Tiger could be the last opportunity to save this iconic species.
