Mitigation

Mitigation

Indonesia continues to emit a vast amount of greenhouse gases due to its high deforestation rates and a fossil fuel-dominated energy industry. The energy sector's contribution to Indonesia’s GHG emission is second only to that of LULUCF (land use, land use change and forestry).

In Indonesia's case, business and industry, particularly the forestry and energy sectors, need to lend a hand to mitigate climate change. A current lack of incentives for forest protection and sustainable forest management as well as support for renewable energy and energy efficiency measures are likely to increase Indonesia’s contribution to global GHG emissions.

The business sector can help the country to mitigate climate change by investing renewable energy sources, such as geothermal, solar, biomass and micro-hydro, and implementing energy efficiency measures (including adopting urban trends like green offices)
