What is Climate Savers

The Climate Savers programme is WWF’s global platform to engage the business and industry sector on climate and energy. Through the
cuttingedge world class partnerships between WWF and businesses, the programme aims at delivering ambitious reductions in greenhouse gases, with a particular focus in CO2 emissions by member companies and in their supply chains.

The backbone of the Climate Savers programme lies in ambitious targets and time tables for reducing each Climate Savers company’s greenhouse gas emissions. Companies are encouraged to commit to substantially reducing their carbon footprint. Its intention is to inspire a change in thinking about climate change in companies, a change which will lead companies to incorporate carbon risks and opportunities in their longterm strategies, thus positioning themselves at the forefront of the transition to the low carbon economy.

A Climate Savers agreement places the company as leader in terms of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. The agreement involves negotiations between WWF, the company and independent technical experts, and is tailored to the circumstances and operating sector of the company. The target is demonstrably more ambitious than any previously planned or communicated by the company.

The Climate Savers programme shows that a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions can work hand in hand with economic growth. It is therefore a tool to challenge the ‘conventional wisdom’ about the conflict between the environment and the economy.

Climate Savers demonstrates innovative solutions to meet the challenges of climate change. It highlights the business sense in companies minimizing their carbon footprint and inspiring others to follow suit. By doing so, the programme contributes to the transformation of industry towards a sustainable future, and to the goal of keeping global warming well below 2ºC, in line with WWF’s mission. Climate Savers delivers conservation achievements which are measurable and real.
