WWF, Nokia and Equinox Publishing Launch Hi-Tech Replantation Initative in Sebangau National Park

Palangkaraya, 7 November 2007: In an effort to mitigate the effects of global warming, WWF-Indonesia, in cooperation with Nokia and Equinox Publishing, has launched a tree planting campaign in Sebangau National Park in Central Kalimantan. This initiative, called NEWtrees, gives people an innovative way to help reforest this protected national park and monitor the growth of the trees through geotags (trees labeled with precise latitude and longitude coordinates) viewable via Google Earth and Yahoo Maps.

Donation of 2000 trees for Mt. Rinjani

Jakarta (10/08)-WWF-Indonesia’s reforestation program NEWtrees gained another support from banking sector. PT Bank Central Asia (BCA) donated 2000 trees which will be used for reforesting five hectares of area in Mt. Rinjani Protected Forest, West Nusa Tenggara. The commitment was officially declared through Memorandum of Undersatanding (MoU) sigining between BCA and WWF-Indonesia and the symbolic ceremony of BCA handing over trees to WWF-Indonesia, on Monday (09/08), in BCA tower, Central Jakarta.

4000 NEWtrees for Ciliwung Watershed

Bogor (2/02)-Marking the first phase of reforestation in upper Ciliwung watershed, 4000 trees were planted yesterday, Tuesday (02/02) in Cikoneng village, Cisarua Sub-district, Bogor, West Java. The trees planting highlighted in the peak of Nokia Give and Grow campaign was funded by Nokia and TESS-AMM as their real support for WWF-Indonesia reforestation initiative called NEWtrees.

SBY Hails Tree Monitoring Technology through Geotagging

Bandung (08/12)-For the very first time, WWF-Indonesia and Directorate General of Land Rehabilitation and Social Forestry (RLPS) Department of Forestry demonstrated the implementation of tree monitoring using geotagging to the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Geotagging for monitoring vegetation has previously been implemented in WWF-Indonesia’s reforestation initiative called NEWtrees.
