WWF-Indonesia achieved a MURI record

Jakarta (12/03)-WWF-Indonesia achieved a MURI (Indonesia Record Museum) record for its initiative creating two replicas of giant trash bin as environmental protection symbol. The giant trash bins have a jumbo size with 3 meters in height and 1.5 meters in width. Head of the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) Jaya Suprana handed the award himself to WWF Indonesia Supervisory Board Tati S. Darsoyo in Outbondholic area, Ancol Dreamland Park, Jakarta, this Friday (12/03).
Commission IV of House of Representative (DPR) recommendation to tackle encroachment in Tesso Nilo

A team from Commission IV of Indonesia Legislative Body conducted a visit to Riau to get first hand information related to forestry issues in the province among others issue on Kampar Peninsula and Tesso Nilo National Park. The result of the three day visit is revealed in Pekanbaru by the head of the team, Firman Subagio who also sits as the Deputy of Commission IV of Indonesia Legislative Body on Thursday, 10 March 2010.
SD4C-Asia Regional Meeting in Bali (Indonesia)

The first Asia Regional Network meeting, “Setting a Regional Agenda for Social Development in Conservation,” was held in Bali (Indonesia) on 20th-23rd January 2010. The meeting was organized on behalf of the network by the Community Empowerment Working Group of WWF-Indonesia and supported by the Papua program.
Karmila Parakkasi; Survey and Monitoring Coordinator of WWF-Indonesia’s Tiger Research Team

It surprises some to learn that the coordinator of WWF’s Tiger Survey team is a young woman. The always-smiling Karmila Parakkasi, or Mila as fellow team members call her, calmly leads her team through the treacherous path of Sumatra’s forest searching for tiger trails. When asked how she feels being the only woman on the team, she said that it never bothers her much.
Tree Planting Action Marked Restoration Initiative in Tesso Nilo National Park

Pekanbaru (05/12)-On 5 December 2009, 120 students planted 3,600 seedlings consisting of ten species of native forest tree that had been planned to be planted in Tesso Nilo National Park. The tree planting action, a collaboration between Tesso Nilo National Park office and WWF-Indonesia Program Riau marked the restoration initiative in Tesso Nilo National Park. This activity was officially started by the Head of Pelalawan District, Rustam Effendi accompanied by the Head of The Regional House of representatives of Pelalawan Regency Agustiar and some members of Pelalawan Regional Executive Conference.
Approaching COP 15 Copenhagen; German Media Visited Sebangau

Palangkaraya (06/11)-As the world approaches COP UNFCC (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change) 15 in Copenhagen, seven journalists from German media visited Sebangau National Park and its environs. Series of activities conducted on 2-6 November 2009 gave them chance to visit Sebangau National Park Office, Katingan Tourism Office, local communities, universities, and private sectors.

The Launching of The Age of Stupid; Documentation of Earth Catastrophe in 2055
Directed by Franny Armstrong and produced by John Battsek, the Age of Stupid tries to capture the earth catastrophe occured in 2055. This ambitious documentary/drama/animation film brings up a story of an old man starred by Pete Poslethwaite who lived alone in 2055 and saw the earth documentation in 2008. He was wondering why at that time, people were not making every effort to stop climate change.
The Community Help Put Out Fires in Sebangau

Palangkaraya (02/10)-Forest and peatland fires happening in some locations in Sebangau were fast overcome by the community group of Fire Brigade called RPK. Since the dry season came on July, the condition of peatland forest had worsen and caused forest and peatland fires during August 2009. Fires have occurred in several locations near river basin and dry community-owned canals.
